About

I am a graduate student in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University specializing in American vernacular music.

My master’s thesis focused race and genre in American old-time music and varying ideologies of tradition, using the string band The Carolina Chocolate Drops as a case study.

Other topics of interest include laborlore and labor songs, homemade instruments, and Piedmont blues.

I am currently developing a dissertation proposal focusing on music and labor in Western New York.
